Requirements To Study Nursing In Canada

We are going to walk you through some of the requirements you will have to meet for you to study nursing in Canada. Without further ado, let’s proceed…

  • Admission Requirements

For you to be accepted in a diploma or undergraduate program, you must have completed your high school education and must have passed mathematics, chemistry, biology and maybe physics with at least an average of C grade.

You will also be required to present an evidence of proficiency in English or French regardless of the official language in your country and you will be required to take some test like TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language), IELTS (International English Language Testing System), TEF (Test d’Evaluation de Francias) and CAEL (Canada Academic English Language Test). \

You will be required to score at least the minimum level of English or French proficiency for you to study nursing in Canada. You should know that the minimum requirement varies for colleges and universities.

You can also decide to change your major to nursing if you have already completed your university program and in this case, you may be eligible for an accelerated program that will allow you to get a full Bachelor of Science in nursing degree.

  • Letter of Acceptance

After enrolling in a university for a nursing program, you will be given a letter of acceptance if you have been accepted and this document or letter will be required when you want to apply for your study permit.

  • Study visa and permit

For you to study in Canada especially for a program that is longer than six months, you will need a study permit and this usually costs $100 to $150 and some applicants may be required to provide biometrics which will cost an additional $85. The permit also includes the cost of your visitor visa or electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) which will allow you to enter Canada and leave for holidays.

  • You must be enrolled at a Designated Learning Institution
  • You must have no criminal record
  • You must show your letter of acceptance

This is good news for students that are from some countries as they can get their study permit within 20 calendar days through the program. Some of the countries are India, China, Morocco, Pakistan, Senegal, the Philippines and Vietnam.

These countries we listed have an agreement with Canada and so it allows students from these countries to have faster visa processing times.

However, if you are not from any of the countries we listed above, you will have to wait for about 4 to 20 weeks for your study permit to be processed and it also depends on your country of residence. So it is better you start the application for your study permit as early as possible so that you can get the study permit early.
