Top 5 Immigration Programs To Immigrate To Canada From Nigeria

  • The Express Entry System

If you have been following the Canadian immigration, you must have come across this immigration programs as it is one of the oldest and most popular immigration programs in Canada and it was designed to speed up the immigration process in Canada and also to help immigrants gain permanent residence in Canada

You should already be loving the program.

This is an online program where you will be expected to create an online profile and fill in some information based on the requirements of the program and you are expected to fill in this information correctly as it will increase your chances of being selected to receive an Invitation To Apply for permanent residency in Canada.

After completing your profile which is to be done within 60 days, you are going to be placed in a pool draw with other applicants and every applicant will be ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System where applicants will be given a score (points) based on the information they filled in their profile like age, language, work experience, qualification etc.

The scores given will be matched against a CRS cut-off score and applicants that meet or exceed the CRS cut-off score will receive an ITA where they will also be expected to submit their application within 60 days.

Another interesting thing about the program is that you don’t need a job offer to be eligible for the program and it means that even if you don’t have a job offer from a Canadian employer, you can immigrate to Canada and look for a job.

Also, you stand another chance for a draw if you were not successful in the first draw you participated in as what you will have to do the second time is to improve you CRS score so as to increase your chances of being successful.

  • The Provincial Nominee Program

This is another wonderful program through which you can immigrate to Canada and it is designed and carried out by the provinces in Canada as they nominate foreign skilled workers to come to the province to fill in labour shortages and contribute to the growth and development of the province.

There are about 13 provinces in Canada and 11 out of these provinces have their own Provincial Nomination Program and these programs have streams that you can apply through to immigrate to the province.

  • The Temporary Foreign Workers Program

This is one program that allows Canadian employers to hire foreign skilled workers to fill up labour shortages temporarily. What this means is that you will be offered a job but you will be going to Canada on temporarily to fill up the job position.

If you have the skills, work experience or expertise for jobs that are in demand in Canada, you can apply through this program as there are three streams through which you can go through depending on the skill you have.

  • Caregivers

The jobs in this category involves taking care of children, old people and also people living with some sort of disability and need medical care.

  • Agricultural Stream

  • The Global Talent Stream

  • The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program

This is a wonderful program but it is designed for the Atlantic Provinces in Canada and these provinces are New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland& Labrador and Prince Edward Island.

You will have to get a job offer from an employer in any of the Atlantic Provinces in Canada for you to be eligible for the program and also, you must check the list of designated employers in the provinces to see if the employer that offered you a job is on the list so as not to get your application for visa denied.

  • The Post-Graduate Work Permit Program (PGWPP)

This program is a study program and it is for international students who have graduated from a Designated Institution of Learning whether in or outside Canada and want to work in Canada.

As a Nigerian that want to go through this program, you will need a work visa and permit which will allow you enter Canada and also work in Canada while to study.

The work permit you would get under this program is an Open Work Permit which will allow you to work for any employer in Canada and in any province too.

Another thing you should know is that the duration of your work permit will depend on the duration of your study program so you will have to take up a study program that is longer than eight months so that you will gain the necessary work experience to help increase your chances of getting permanent residency in Canada.

So aside the fact that you can work and also study in Canada as an international student running a post graduate program, you would stand a chance of also getting permanent residency in Canada with the work experience you have gained.

The PGWPP will give you the opportunity to apply for permanent residency through the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) as you must have gotten the Canadian work experience as you were working while studying.

  • You must have graduated from a public or private university, college or technical school in Canada
