How to Immigrate to Canada as a Baker

We said that there are over 90 immigration programs in Canada but you will have to know the best immigration program through which you can immigrate to Canada as a baker as this will help you prepare yourself and increase your chances of immigrating to Canada.

Some of these programs are:

  • The Provincial Nomination program

This is a program that is designed for the provinces in Canada to help them nominate foreign immigrants to come fill up labour shortages in the province. Through this program, employers in the participating provinces are able to hire foreign skilled workers to come fill up job positions.

As a baker, there are a lot of job opportunities for you across the provinces in Canada as we have shown you the top 12 bakeries in Canada that are located in different provinces.

You should know that there are 13 provinces in Canada but only 11 of these provinces are participating in the Provincial Nomination Program and so they have their own nomination program and they are in charge of the requirements for the program.

These 11 provinces are:

  • Alberta
  • British Columbia
  • Manitoba
  • New Brunswick
  • Newfoundland & Labrador
  • Northwest Territories
  • Nova Scotia
  • Ontario
  • Prince Edward Island
  • Saskatchewan
  • Yukon

For you to be eligible to apply through the program you must have a job offer from an employer in any of the participating provinces and mind you, these provinces do not give you permanent residency or approve your application for permanent residency. They only nominate foreign skilled workers to get permanent residency.

You can choose to apply for this program through the direct application process where you will have to submit your application through mail or courier service or you can submit your application online by going through the Express Entry linked to PNP.

The thing is that the direct application process takes about 15 to 19 months while the Express Entry linked to PNP takes about 6 to 8 months; so the choice is yours.

  • Express Entry System

This is the most popular immigration program in Canada and it is also one of the fastest and easiest immigration programs in Canada. The good thing about the program is that you can get permanent residency to Canada directly from the program.

It is an online program and so you as an applicant will have to create an online profile where you will fill up the requirements for the program. The requirements for the program will determine your eligibility status and they are:

  • Age (at least 18 years)
  • Work experience or training
  • Language fluency test results in English or French
  • Education
  • Provincial nomination

You will be expected to complete your profile within 60 days after which you will be placed in a pool with other applicants and a draw will be conducted. The program uses a ranking system called the Comprehensive Ranking System and in the system, applicants will be given a CRS score to be matched against a CRS cut-off score in the draw that will be conducted and applicants that meet or exceed the CRS cut-off score will be selected to receive an Invitation to Apply for permanent residency in Canada.

The draws are conducted twice in a month and if you were not successful in the first draw you participated in, you can participate in another draw as you profile can stay in the system for up to a year.

Well, this system is managed under three federal programs and they are:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

As a baker, you will be eligible for the Federal Skilled Trade Program (FSTP) as the program is for foreign skilled trade workers that want to immigrate to Canada and since bakers are under trade jobs, this is the program you will be eligible for under the Express Entry System.

You don’t need a job offer to apply through any of the programs under the Express Entry System.

The eligibility requirements for this program are:

  • You should not be lower than 18 years of age
  • You should have a paid work experience of at least two years whether part-time or full-time
  • There is no educational requirement for a skilled trade worker but having it can increase you score.
  • You must meet the required language level in English or French in each language ability (speaking, writing, reading and listening)
  • You should have sufficient funds to support you to settle in Canada and also take care of any other family member coming with you unless you have a valid job offer
  • You must successfully pass the security background check meaning you have no criminal record
  • You must pass the medical examination check meaning you are in sound health

Skilled trades for the FSTP are organized under the following National Occupation Classification (NOC) and the bakers for under the NOC Major group 633 alongside the butchers. Do you see that this trade job is needed in Canada?
